Established in 1987,
North Trade Namibia c.c. in southern Africa has made its mark in
the decorative wood and stone markets of the world. Two decades of
commitment to excellence has ensured a broad international client base
and consistent growth in sales; responses to the growing demand for
attractive, natural, sustainable products as aquarium and terrarium
décor.
Twenty-five permanent
employees process the raw materials in our 2 000 m˛ factory in central
Namibia. These raw materials, especially wood, are collected by over
two hundred independent local suppliers.
North Trade Namibia is
proud of its job creation initiatives as well as its emphasis on
environmentally ethical methods of collection. Sustainability of this
valuable resource is ensured by closely monitoring all new stock. Wet
wood – the result of cutting down live trees – is rejected out of hand.
Unprocessed wood and
stone is stockpiled at the factory in an area of 100 000 m˛. At any
given time, North Trade Namibia holds over 800 000 kg of raw
material.
These raw materials
are processed as follows:
WOOD: In order
to ensure that the final product is of the highest quality, wood is
hand-selected for its unique shape, size and decorative character. It
is then packed onto tables and sandblasted individually by workers who
are experienced in the art of enhancing the natural beauty of each
piece. All workers wear protective clothing in compliance with
stringent safety regulations.
STONE: Rough
stone must first be broken to size by hand or crushed to size in a jaw
crusher. Because these colourful and decorative stones are highly
sought after by aquarium and terrarium owners, they must be rounded
off. The broken and crushed stone is therefore placed into large
tumbling drums that are loaded with water and silicon powder before
rotating for days on end. This process smoothes sharp edges that could
otherwise injure fish, amphibians or reptiles.
